Children's books illustrated by Alison Davis Lyne

Through this page you can visit a page for each of the six picture books (to date 2009) I have illustrated.

The first book I illustrated was Evangeline for Children, a retelling of Longfellow's poem for children 5 to 8 years old. I had great fun doing research on the clothes, landscapes, and daily life in the mid 1750's when the story takes place. Click on the "Evangeline" icon below to go to a page that tells some more about the book.

The second book I illustrated was Easter Day Alphabet, a colorful alphabet book, showing past and present customs of the holiday. I especially enjoyed matching the children shown engaged with the holiday activities (some historic),with the patterns that "went with" a certain historical period. In March 2003 I finished the artwork for Kudzu Chaos, a comtempory tall tale, set in the south. This is the first published book of author Jennifer Holloway Lambe. It is a high spirited look at what happens when a sleepy southern town is over run with Kudzu vines. It shows the solution that the book's heroes, Bobby Lee and Kudzu Katie find to cure the town's problem of too much kudzu! Click on the Kudzu icon below to go to its page.

In November 2003, I completed the artwork for Jacques et la Canne a Sucre; A Cajun Jack and the Beanstalk, a Cajun slant on the old tale. In this retelling, Jacques (Jack) trades crawfish for magic sugar cane cuttings. After the sugar cane cuttings grow overnite, "up to the clouds", Jacques climbs up the stalk and into adventure. To see more about the story click on the Jacques et la Canne a Sucre icon below, to go to the page.

In March 2004, I sent off the artwork for Halloween Alphabet. I was reunited with the Easter Day Alphabet author Beverly Barras Vidrine, for another turn about the history of holidays alphabet. This time I got to show the Celtic side of Halloween. To learn more about it click on the Halloween Alphabet icon below.

In December 2004, I was paired again with Beverly Vidrine for the third in the series of holiday alphabet books, Thanksgiving Day Alphabet. It is due out fall of 2006. To learn more about it please click on the Thanksgiving Day Alphabet icon below.

All of these books have been published by Pelican Publishing Company, located in Gretna, Louisiana.
