This is one of a series of icons now in a private collection. This image is approx 8.5" x 11" on 1" thick board. It has been sealed with gesso and metal leaf then applied. The faces and hands are glazed acrylic polymer slightly raised from the board level. Four out of the five images in this series, are portraits, with the fifth this rendering of the St. George and the Dragon tale.
This image is stylistically based on the religous images produced in medieval Europe and the Middle East for churches and religous institutions. They were often inserted into wooden frames to make up a kind of story board for instruction of the faithful.
