Alison Davis Lyne Black and White Illustrations

The above are a selection of published black and white spot illustrations. They have a gardening theme because they were used to illustrate short stories in Green Prints magazine. It's great fun to use the story to draw people, plants and the outdoors in interesting ways. The use of line allows for great detail, while blacks and halftones focus attention on the main point of the storyline. I enjoy using realistic images to depict an abstract concept. The two building illustrations above have been published as greeting cards. The first building is the original courthouse of Russellville, KY. built in 1822 and replaced in 1904. The weather vane is a fish that has bullet holes that according to legend were from the gun of a fleeing Jesse James. Russellville hosts a "Flying Fish Festival" in the spring, located in the town square. The second building is a log cabin replica of Red River Meeting House located in Logan County, KY. It is built on the site of the original meeting house that hosted the Second Great Awakening revival in 1800.
